Baking a cake for 2 year old boy

Our monday started off okay in the countryside - we woke up 1 hour earlier than normal and it took about 1 hour altogether to go to the city; get L to day-care and myself to work. Not too bad, and besides I got to work earlier than usual - I can go home soon :) I only work 80% of my regular work hours so that's why I get to leave earlier. And I have to say I didn't sleep too well last night because I was a little worried how this morning would go. Why I always have to worry? Today's a baking day - Luka turns 2 tomorrow! Can't believe it's already been 2 years that we brought him home from the hospital (as I gave birth to him, that is). So we're baking a cake and according to mister L, it needs to be chocolate. That's fine with me, I love chocolate :) Tomorrow, we're just celebrating the 3 of us. We'll have a proper birthday party for him later this spring with all the relatives but that wont be until we can get back to our apartment. That's whe

Sunday

Today was our first whole day at the countryside and it went well. Playing outside and enjoying fresh air :) This is actually my childhood home but I didn't remember how quiet it's here - I'm so used to the city noises even though we don't live right in the city (not in downtown). Just much closer compared to this place :) Just like yesterday I'm still battling with the flu but I still had my an hour long walk while L was sleeping in the stroller. We did have sunshine for some time but of course not in these pictures - had fun though: My husband got here too but he went back to our apartment to finish some stuff, like removing the toilet. Can't believe, tomorrow everything really begins (what comes to renovation, that is)! So my husband spends the night at the apartment and makes sure the contractor starts tomorrow. The contractor actually assumed he was gonna start this project last Monday and he also thought he was coming to take the tiles off of ou

It's a beautiful day!

Today was a really beautiful day so L and a I went for a walk in park nearby. Actually I walked and L took his nap - perfect. So many people walking and just wandering around - it's finally spring time in Finland! I still have a flu so I didn't go too far cause that short walk was just enough for me. I really hope I'll get better soon. Here are some pictures I took while walking outside: We also moved temporarily to my parents house in the countryside because our bathroom renovation project starts on Monday. They'll start taking off the tiles etc which is actually very exciting. It finally starts for real! Here are also some picture of our now old bathroom - beware, the pic's are..awful! Our old & nasty bathroom - welcome new one and adios old one! :) Maybe I'll order new stuff from here . I like their Noro-brand because they have good ones for small bathrooms. Okay it's been a long day and L just fell asleep. I think I'll do t

Top qualities for choosing a stroller for a newborn

Good morning, everyone! I wrote about finding the right kind of stroller for 1 or 2 children and that was mainly targeted to people with with a toddler and a baby or two toddlers. But when I was expecting my first child, L, I had no previous experience on strollers at all. I'd seen those for sure but I never paid too much attention on them. Some strollers had four big tires, some four with two smallers ones in front and some of them had only three tires. Some were big, some smaller and some in between. Some have adjustable legrests while others have bigger & better hood/canopy. And the color - which one to choose? As you can imagine, we were lost and advice came from everywhere! This post is about finding the right one especially for newborn and we'll talk about other types of strollers later. I hope this helps you or even gets you on the right direction. As said before, I'm not a professional on this so this is only based on me and my family's own experience.

Back to work!

Today I finally went back to work after being sick for almost a week. Can't be believe how I actually missed being at work and doing something other than sleeping or reading magazines  (all though good ones). Writing this blog helped me too and it's nice to see people find it too - many new readers again! I have a job that I really enjoy and it was nice to see my colleagues again. Yesterday, when I went to that thrift store I told you about on my last post, I found out that someone had broken the wingmirror. It doesn't cost too much to fix it but still..that kinda made me angry. Why people need to break things? Oh well, things happen. Today's a laundry day for me because our bathroom renovation project starts tomorrow so there will be no laundrymachine in our apartment :) We're moving out of the apartment on saturday for a month, or at least I hope it's only gonna last for a month! We're so used to living close to the city so I'm sure it's gonn

Selling old clothes to thrift store

Good morning, everyone! Today I'm going to a thrift store here in Helsinki - a store, that sells both baby/toddler clothes and accessories as well as women's clothing & accessories. The only difference to a regular thrift store is that the stuff this store sells is primarily new or barely used. Of course the price is less than half compared to new stuff. Nice, huh?! I took some of my old stuff (okay, 4 Ikea bags full of clothes, shoes, jewellery etc.) there last week and thought they would call and tell me they wouldn't pay for those. They do have a policy, that you can only bring certain type of stuff there (rather new, all clean & ironed). They actually texted me yesterday and said they would pay me almost 30€! I think I did pretty well considered I was gonna just throw most of that stuff away. I love recycling and I have to admit I do buy lots of used clothes, for example. Only if they're in good shape and usually kids clothes are because kids grow so fas

Finding the right kind of stroller for 1 or 2 children

As I mentioned on my introductory text, we have a toddler and we're also expecting a baby-boy this july. That means we need a new stroller that would suit for both of them. We've had quite a few different ones in the past 2 years, such as Gesslein vision  (it's an older one) and Emmaljunga scooter-s-air , to name a few. To be honest, I found myself as a 'stroller crazy' -type of person and it seems, I'm always looking for new ones. This time around I will choose my last ones - no more changes, says my husband :) Luckily I started this process early on so we're in no hurry yet - I still have time to make my decision. I have a few different ones on my mind and here are some of the qualities I'm looking for: Stroller for two (that's the minimum requirement) but they need to convertible for 1 or 2 children Preferably narrow ones (I use public transportation a lot) Cocoon carrycot for the baby as he needs to lie flat Not too heavy (I walk a lot) B

Cough drops and sleeping on the couch

Image
If there's something normal about winter, it's the flu season. It hit us hard this year, ever since our son (let's call him L from now on) switched to a bigger day-care center this january. I mean, he got it the first day!! And of course I did too :) I guess this pregnancy makes it easier for all the bugs get into me - I'm like a giant sponge attracting all the germs. Nice. And it's almost march already so really, when is it gonna stop? So this past week my help's been cough drops and lots and lots of kleenex: What do you do to prevent from getting this nasty flu? Did you get the flu shot? Health care professionals have different views on getting the flu shot, especially here in Finland. Needless to say, I didn't get it this year. I'm not a health care professional by any means, but I think I will take it next year - I still don't think it's a good thing to get it while pregnant. Sleeping on the couch? Yes, my cough has been so bad I was

Introduction to my blog

Hello everyone and thanks for joining my blog! I'm a 37 years old working mother of almost two living a hectic life in Helsinki, Finland. Almost two means I'm expecting our second son who's due in July and our older one is a boy as well. So very exciting times :) So why am I here, blogging about my life? Well, I am interested in basically all the baby-related gear there is and my blog will mostly be about that. What's actually useful, where you can get it and is it worth buying it all new or do I prefer buying used ones. These days it doesn't matter we you live - Finland or some other country  - because you buy (almost) everything online. That's one of the reasons I decided to write my blog in english instead of my native finnish so this could be helpful for everyone. I also used to live in the US some years ago, so that also made the decision about the choice of language easier. Besides baby-related gear, I'm interested in health-related issues - especi
